The Broads Picture House

Take a seat in the museum’s very own cinema! The Broads Picture House is currently showing a 30 minute film – ‘A History of Broads Boating Holidays’. Learn about the history of a boating holiday aboard.

In conjunction with the film we have two accompanying new exhibitions.

The Broads on Film examines how early photographers and film makers attracted tourists to the Broads and helped turn the area into a popular holiday destination.

Messing about on the Water explores the experience of a Broads boating holiday. It looks at how holiday makers travelled to their destination; how they bought provisions; the activities they took part in; the souvenirs they bought and how they recorded their memories. The story is told through a selection of objects from the museum’s collection.

Racing on the Broads is another new exhibition for 2026. Inspired by the museum’s new acquisition of a racing catamaran, the exhibition delves into the thrills and spills of powerboat and dinghy racing on the Broads. We meet the people who shaped the sport with their innovative boat design and building and the record-breaking racers who drove and sailed them.
