Volunteer at the Museum

“Since coming to the Museum I’ve learnt a lot and people want my skills here. I’ve made more friends here than where I lived before.”

The Museum of the Broads depends on its team of volunteers. They are the face of the Museum, welcoming visitors of all ages, both locals and holidaymakers.

Our volunteers work at the Museum for many reasons. Some like to use their existing skills and hobbies, some want to learn new skills or get work experience. Many enjoy meeting our visitors and all enjoy the social camaraderie and making new friends.  All help us to bring the stories of the Broads alive.

Volunteers are invited to training sessions at the Museum. We hold an end of season ‘thank you’ evening and several other social events throughout the year. Volunteers and their families are also admitted free to the Museum.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for our Front of House/Welcoming Team.  This is a large team and the varied roles include welcoming and assisting visitors, staffing reception, helping in the shop and cafe, and operating our electronic till.  Full training will be given for all roles. Please follow the link for the role descriptions: Welcoming Team

We are also recruiting volunteers to help with general maintenance and to help look after our boats.  Role descriptions will be here soon, but for more information, please click on the link below and we’ll get back to you.

If you are interested in joining our volunteer team then contact the Curator or apply online. When possible, you will be invited to the Museum for a look around and a chat to find out which role would suit you best. Then after initial training, you will be invited to join our Museum volunteers.

Please note that all working on site must follow all Museum policies and procedures and undertake mandatory annual training.

Please apply online using the button below, or contact the Curator on: 01692 581681 (leave a message if we’re not there), or

The Museum is also recruiting Trustees to help take the Museum to its next phase.  For more information and details on how to apply, please click on the link below.
