Ranworth Broad Explorer

Wednesday 26th August

A scenic return cruise aboard our historic steam launch Falcon.  This 4.5hr trip includes a 1 hour stop in the picturesque village of Ranworth.  This excursion gives you time to climb the famous church tower of St Helen with views across Ranworth Broad, or visit the Granary Cafe or bring a picnic to enjoy by the river.  With comfortable padded seats aboard the Falcon, this is a unique opportunity to experience our historic steam launch and see the beautiful Ranworth Broad.

Barton Regatta ~ A Celebration of Classic Boats

Sunday 30th August

Take one of our launches to visit the iconic Barton Regatta. Experience the majestic beauty of sailing boats and vintage craft during a one hour round trip from the museum to Barton Broad.

WHERRY WEEK

Museum and Sail!

All Aboard a Wherry!

Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd September

Take a step back on time aboard a Wherry and discover what life was like for a Wherryman and his family.

Steam Enthusiast's Day - Learn how to fire and operate our 130-year-old steam launch Falcon.

Saturday 5th September

10am-4pm

A truly unique experience for steam enthusiasts!  You and your guest will spend the day on board our 130 year old steam launch Falcon as we travel around the beautiful Broads.  Prepare to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty while under full supervision of our experienced boatmen on the operation of the boiler and engine.

Your day will start at 10am at the museum and will include a stop around 1.30pm for a light lunch before we continue until our return to the museum at 4pm upon which you will receive your commemorative certificate of completion and a beautiful engraved Falcon pocket watch.

This exciting experience is only available for two trainees and their guests ensuring they have time for both engine and helming instruction and can comfortably move around the boat.  
   
Cost is £350 for one trainee and one guest, with a maximum of two trainees.  Light lunch, commemorative certificate and engraved pocket watch included for trainee.  Book here

Steamboat & Wherry Experience

Wednesday 9th September

11am-2pm
4pm-7pm

In partnership with the Wherry Yacht Charter we will be running two special trips aboard our steamboat, Falcon.  Your trip will start at the museum,  you will travel down the river to How Hill in Ludham where a wherry will be waiting for you to board.  After a tour of this historic vessel you will enjoy refreshments before travelling back to Stalham.

Enjoy tea and cake during the afternoon trip and Pimms and ‘nibbles’ during the evening trip.

Heritage Open Day - FREE ADMISSION TO MUSEUM AND WHERRY ‘MAUD’

 Join the Museum of the Broads and Wherry Maud Trust for a free day out at the Museum of the Broads as part of Heritage Open Days.

At the Museum discover the unique history of the Norfolk Broads through engaging exhibits, restored traditional boats, and interactive displays that bring the region’s past to life.

At Trading Wherry ‘Maud’ you will have a unique wherry experience. See how the wherrymen would raise and lower the mast. Watch while cargo is loaded on board and ropework is done. See Maud’s Timeline photos in her cargo hold. In Maud’s Pop Up Museum you will learn more about Maud’s working life, her rescue from a watery grave and restoration to sailing order. Watch a video to see how the crew operate ‘Maud’ and how she sails nowadays.

You can also try your hand at peg loom weaving, an ancient heritage craft with deep roots in rural life. Using traditional wooden peg looms and natural sheep’s fleece, visitors of all ages can create a simple woven piece while learning how this historic technique was once used to make rugs, mats and seat covers. Drop in throughout the day and have a go.

Model Boat Day

Following the success of our event in May, we’re bringing back Model Boat Day! Discover the history of boating on the Broads in our new display and cinema. Meet model boat owners and have a go at crafting your own boat.

Hidden Habitats and Curious Crafts!

Explore the museum for hidden habitats. Discover the wildlife who live in them and have a go at making a bug home.

Quiz Night at the Museum

Test your knowledge with a fun evening of friendly competition in the Museum of the Broads. Gather your team, enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, and compete for quiz night glory! Bring your own nibbles and pop! Refreshments will also be available to purchase in the museum.
