The Collection

Many of the Museum’s Broads boats, tools, and associated items are unique. Many photos and pictures can be viewed digitally on computer screens, and we have also created an audio guide tour using the voices of our volunteers to tell the stories of Broadland.

The Collection

There are nearly 6,000 items in the Museum’s collection. Each one helps to bring the story of the Broads alive. There are iconic boats, a water bicycle, models showing life 1,000 years’ ago, tools, household items and photos, and brochures and souvenirs from holidays throughout the decades. The annual exhibition looks at stories not normally told and in 2020 will tell the story of Holidays on the Broads.

The purpose of the Museum of the Broads is the conservation of the Museum’s collection in perpetuity, to preserve, record and illustrate the history of The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. The focus is on people’s relationship in the discovery, development and exploration of the local area. The Museum will encourage visitors to engage with the collection and be inspired and helped to discover the local heritage.
