WHAT HAS BEEN DONE IN WINTER 09/10

Much work has been done during the winter, particularly a new floor to the Wherry room. It looks very smart and smoooooth, so much easier to keep clean.

The wherry exhibit has been repainted by Kath and her apprentice Anne, under the watchful eye of Mike, the builder of the exhibit. Unfortunately the real winter we have experienced has delayed the start of the work to the quay heading along the river front. Hopefully this will be completed before too long.

Hoorah the quayheading has been completed by Amis, and in time for us to open. All we have to do is in fill and create pathways and the water point for Falcon. Falcon is undergoing a refurbishmnet to hull and engine. Unfortunately the engine has not yet been returned so she is unable to be finished and relaunched.

Lots of painting and cleaning has gone on despite the weather. After much heaving, grunting, and sweating we managed to move the Weed Cutter to allow better access to the boat shed, which now has a pair of very smart and user friendly ramps for access. There is a new exibit of the "Boat Bar" from The Maltsters public house, which was built by Percivals of Horning. This includes a tribute to the late Tom Percival and his sucesses as a world class power boat driver.

There is also a display of the tools and work of "Rip" Martin, the naval architect. His designs, specifically for the new medium, are regarded by many as the impetus behind the growth of the use of fibreglass in broads hire craft.

Our two resident woodworkers/boatbuilders have been hard at work renovating "Tyganda" the playboat. Despite interuptions from the weather they have renewed much of the hull planking, rebuilt the tramsom and refurbished the cabin and fordeck.

If the weather holds good she will be painted, by our lady of the brush, and look almost as good as new.
